Founded in 1975, the Carolina Justice Policy Center has served as a leader in criminal justice advocacy, education and solutions throughout North Carolina. For over thirty years, the Carolina Justice Policy Center has worked to develop and support effective community-based corrections programs that can reduce the need for expensive prison beds; advocated for sentencing reform; and advocated for numerous statewide death penalty reforms, including a moratorium on executions.

 

 

 

  • Educating North Carolinians about the need for ending racial bias in the death penalty.
  • The NC Legislature passed the Racial Justice Act in 2009.
  • Helped support, implement and improve community-based corrections programs including the Criminal Justice Partnership Program, Sentencing Services, Drug Treatment Court, Reentry, Womens' services and residential programs (1979 - 2008).
