The U.S. Supreme Court found in April, 2008, that Kentucky's lethal injection protocol to sedate, paralyze and kill may be used. In 1994, North Carolina reformed its sentencing practices by enacting the Structured Sentencing Act. The Carolina Justice Policy Center worked to insure that Intermediate Sanctions are an integral part of the Sentencing Structure. The NC legislature improved the structure in August, 2009 by adopting revisions that make the sentencing grid more predictable and consistent.
